Apollonia Kotero

Patricia Apollonia Kotero, an American actress and singer has been a model for a while. She was the main female vocalist in Apollonia 6 and co-starred in Prince's film Purple Rain from 1984. Apollonia, a singer/actress who was christened by Prince in 1984 was one of the many female artists of the 1980s who benefitted from Prince. The actress was born Patricia Kotero in Santa Monica California in 1959, her professional career started as a model and actress by the end of the '70s with a role on the television show CHiPS. As the female protagonist of Prince's Purple Rain was her first performance from 1984. Prince changed the girl's name during this time. The actress replaced Vanity by the female group Vanity 6 for her role in the film in the role of Apollonia 6 replacing Vanity. Sex Shooter on the soundtrack made a tiny hit for her trio but as Prince's duet partner in Take Me with You she had more success. Kotero broke up with Prince when they fell out about the fate of Apollonia 6. She was in a number of small films, including the sequel to Purple Rain Under the Cherry Moon (which she did not want to be in), and then landed the part of Falcon Crest on the Night-Time drama Falcon Crest from 1985-1986. Apollonia was finally able to release her debut album in 1988. However, the comparatively insignificant collection of R&B/dance songs failed to be a hit with the music-buying public and it soon disappeared out of sight. She remained active (if a little under the radar) in the role of actress throughout the decade that followed, with a few television roles and minor films and released an exercise video. Apollonia released a bilingual album in Spanish and English called Stay with me in 1997. After getting back to university and earning the degree of filmmaking, she formed her production business.
