Catherine Ford is a British actress born in Bloomsbury. When her father left the family, she was brought up by her mother godparents, and grandmother. While a small infant, Ford struggled with anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder caused through word-related associations. Ford began to become fascinated by acting during her teenage years and joined the National Youth Theatre. She got into the Sylvia Young Theatre School. After just a week she decided it wasn't the right fit for her. Ford returned for admission to the Central School of Speech and Drama and, after the fourth time she applied she was admitted. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler in Doctor Who. Ford received her degree in 1993. However, prior to that, Ford made a television debut, appearing in Surgical Spirit in an episode from 1990. Ford took the professional title of Catherine Tate. Tate was seen in television programs including The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London's Burning during the Nineties. Tate was also a regular performer in theatre and eventually joined the Royal Shakespeare Company during its season 2000-2001. Tate received recognition as a stand-up comedian that was added to her resume in the year 1996.
